The Fat Radish is the latest addition to Frome town centre a brand new bar and restaurant, brought to you by two young ambitious food and drink loving ladies - Pascale and Ellen.
“We wanted to be able to offer a bigger, more varied menu than we were able to offer at the River House given limited space and equipment” explained Ellen, who has left the River House cafe also in Frome town centre, in order to create the Fat Radish bar and restaurant.
“Fat Radish will be a vibrant yet down to earth hang out with an inspiring menu and honest attitude. Serving up modern seasonal cuisine with world influences, the Fat Radish intend to excite the most enthusiastic foodies, whilst also offering a menu that will appeal to the less adventurous”.
Now open for nearly a month they have lived up to expectations and more. Serving up options to cater for all appetites and budgets with their à la carte menu. Options for a more casual dining experience are on offer with the bar snacks menu. Ideal for large parties and those wishing to hire a room for private dining or parties.
We have known chef Pascale for a long time, and have witnessed her passion for the food she creates, and it is evident that the quality and freshness of local produce is crucial to the standard of food they are serving on the menu. Both girls have huge experience within the industry, covering all areas of bar, cafe and restaurant work collectively.
The River House has always succeed in being a welcoming and community inspired business and Ellen continues this ethos in the Fat Radish. It has been a long time coming for chef Pascale to have full reign over a great venue and menu, and a great opportunity for both Ellen and Pas to dedicate them selves fully to what they love, Ellen says “We were slightly limited at the River House with space and timings, we wanted to have the opportunity to explore more flavours and techniques”.
We were especially keen to try the cocktail range on offer, Pas and Ellen have great passion for creating (and drinking) innovative and quirky cocktails. The ever changing cocktail menu features a Watermelon Daiquiri, Rhubarb Gin Sour and a Green Chilli Margarita, to name a few - good value for money and fresh flavours.
They’ve received great reviews already in just a short time -“The entrées and mains were absolutely magnificent” “Best food I have ever eaten. Amazing atmosphere, such warm lovely staff and great decor.” “Very tasty with good portion sizes (and lots of chips!). Something for everyone”
The funky new business is based around fresh food from good local suppliers, the Fat Radish team are focused on zero food waste, which will mean regularly changing specials and imaginatively designed dishes on offer. Main dishes range from £10-£22, with smaller plate snack options available at the bar.
The menu features regularly changing dishes like fresh gnocchi, pan-fried bream, scallops, pork belly and a great range of homemade vegetarian options. The Fat Radish soft opening party was on Saturday the 13th of May, and was a great evening. Three weeks later Pascale says “We’re incredibly happy with how its going, the atmosphere is always lovely we hope to continue being as busy as this for the foreseeable future”. A busy vibrant event with promise of many more similar nights at the three story spacious building. Contemporary colours and a modern chic design created a mature and comfortable atmosphere. We are very keen to explore more menu and wish them all the deserved success they are predicted to experience.
